Market Scans

Suspect you’ve got a blind spot (or two) about opportunities? Thinking you may need to pivot but not sure how or where? Looking for new ways to compete in a saturated market? Calling on my years of experience in research and analysis, I’ll do a deep dive in your company and market, meet with you and your team…maybe interview your investors, your board and some of your customers. Then, I’ll provide my written analysis and recommendations.

Business Development

Development can (and should) mean different things depending on your industry, product (or service) and your company. For example, for one start-up client, I went into sales mode and closed their second big marquee account. For another, I worked with engineering on product management and quality so they could meet contractual obligations with Dell and have a successful IPO. The key word is “business.”

Channel Analysis & Planning

A great product (or service) is only the beginning — you’ve got to get it to market (and a lot of it.) That means channels. You’ve got to consider things like direct or indirect, multi-tier pricing, margins, and ongoing sales and technical support. And, just because the “dominant market player” is big doesn’t mean they’ll be good at selling your product or can move as quickly as you need for market entry. (I once negotiated a contract with a BIG player, for a start-up venture, that BIG player wanted, and it took us nine months to get it done!)

Start-Up Sanity Check

Got a great idea? Are people telling you it’s crazy? Good! You’ve got to be a little insane to take that start-up leap – whether it’s out of your garage, the lab or a day job. I’ll help you decide where and when to leap (and what to do when you land). You’ll email me whatever plans or analysis you’ve done, or simply share your brain (let it rip!). I’ll review all that, do a bit of my own research. Then, we’ll spend two hours to dig deep. I’ll ask some hard questions, so you’ll come away focused and knowing next steps.
Investment: $795.00 (Why do I call it an investment? Two reasons: 1. If you’re willing to pay, that tells me you’re serious. 2. When you pay for advice, you’re more likely to value and use it.)

Start-Up Investor Presentation Review

A PhD client once said, “Presenting my idea to investors is like changing from work boots to ballet slippers.” And, yes, effective presentations are a challenge for anyone, especially when you’re talking about your ideas (we all have blind spots). I’ve worked with all kinds of entrepreneurs as well as investors, so I can help you focus on the critical points of your presentation and how to communicate them effectively. Hint: The first step is not forget about pretty PowerPoint cells for a bit. Tell me in your own words why your idea is great and then we’ll go from there. I can also provide you with recommendations for different funding sources, as part of the review. Bootstrapping could actually end up being your best way.
Fee: $750.00  Typical turnaround for a review is less than three business days.

On-Call Advice

Your monthly investment gives you unlimited emails. I’ll answer within 24 hours, absolute max. A great option for when you need some quick answers to questions such as, “What do you think about_______?” or “Do you think this is a good fit for my marketing?” or simply “I thought of this, Does it make sense?” Then, you can focus on results, knowing I’m always here to help you sift through the good, bad, and, if necessary, even the ugly.

Social Media Reality Check

Social media is just another set of tools. No magic. The trick is determining how and when to use those tools in your particular business. I don’t tout myself as a social media “expert” — so I won’t try to sell you services or advice you don’t need. It all comes down to what works for you, not everyone else. I’ll review your existing social media, if you’re already using the tools as well as any marketing plan or ideas you have. Then I’ll meet with you for up to two hours to discuss my recommendations. You’ll come away with clarity and actionable tasks that won’t break your brain or budget.

Website Review

Not getting the results you had hoped? Think there’s something that could be improved, but can’t see it? I’ll review your website from a business perspective, evaluating if it’s designed for the results you need. Then, I’ll give you a report with realistic recommendations based on your resources and goals. And, if you do need a renovation or new site, I can recommend people to help with that.

Fee: Nonprofit: $750 | Start-Up: $1200 | Established Business: $2000
